Resalta, one of the leading energy service companies in Central and Eastern Europe, is actively leading the charge towards sustainability of this region, by applying good environmental, social, and governance practices in their projects. Resalta's sustainability approach is focused on energy efficiency. In fact, they work closely with companies and public institutions in the region to identify and implement energy-saving opportunities. Through comprehensive energy audits, Resalta identifies areas where energy can be optimised, and implements tailor-made solutions to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions.
“By maximising energy efficiency, we can lower the production costs of companies and public institutions, reduce their CO2 emissions, improve comfort for their employees and consumers, and most importantly help them save money", explained Đorđe Popović of Resalta.
When they started, the ESCO (energy service company) concept was only present in the most developed economies, such as Germany and Japan. Therefore, Resalta had to put in a tremendous effort to spread awareness about its benefits in Southeast Europe and establish it in regulation and practice. A decade later, they are proud to be leaders in the markets of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Czech Republic, and Romania. They have implemented around 300 projects in the public and private sectors, resulting in a reduction of over 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide and other harmful substances.
“Resalta's business model offers clients a complete takeover of investment, project design, and implementation, with a fixed fee for service, technological process improvement, and long-term management and maintenance. The project risk is entirely on Resalta's side during the entire contractual period, allowing clients to focus entirely on their core business, whether it's biomass, heat pumps, or combined production of electric and thermal energy. It is equally applicable to solar power plants, efficient LED lighting, energy refurbishment of buildings, reactive power compensation, or complex decarbonization processes for large systems”, notes Popović.
"We design energy efficiency projects based on thorough analyses of the consumption and needs, and then our team of engineers implements the projects in a short time frame and with minimal disruption of ongoing operations", added Popović.
In addition to energy efficiency, Resalta is also driving the adoption of solar energy in the Western Balkans. For the region to align with the EU’s 2050 ambition to make Europe a carbon-neutral continent, as stipulated by recently adopted Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, solar power, a 100% renewable source with versatile potential applications, will emerge as key power source, which may even generate quarter of global electricity needs by 2050. Resalta has already developed and implemented numerous solar energy projects, leveraging the region's abundant solar resources to generate clean and renewable energy. Furthermore, these projects also contribute to the region's energy diversification, which is not only needed for reducing its reliance on fossil fuels, a major problem still halting regional environmental efforts, but also for the transition towards more sustainable energy sources which has proven to be crucial for the Western Balkans due to growing energy concerns.
“We are honoured to have Resalta as our partner in advancing the conversation on ESG themes in the Western Balkans and beyond”, said Biljana Braithwaite, CEO of Sustineri Partners, the organiser of the first ESG Summit in the Western Balkans.
