CWP is joining us again at ESG Adria Summit to bring their international experience and innovative business practices in the field of renewable energy to the region. Thanks to their profound understanding of the local energy landscape in Southeast Europe and the use of innovative technologies in their renewable energy projects, the company is spearheading the energy transition of the region.

CWP Europe is currently developing more than 7 GW of utility-scale wind, solar and battery storage projects across Southeast Europe. The company is part of CWP Global and has an impressive track record of more than 6 GW developed globally and 758 MW already built in Southeast Europe. By leveraging its extensive experience, cutting-edge technologies, innovative business models, and sophisticated measurement tools, the company is adept at identifying the best locations and layouts for renewable energy and storage projects, thereby ensuring optimal performance of their assets.

As a result, CWP Europe’s work on renewable energy capacities across the Adria region has been recognized as a major accelerator for the green energy agenda. The company is actively involved in the development of numerous strategic wind and solar projects in the Adria region, contributing to a decrease in fossil fuel dependence and promoting the region’s decarbonisation. Furthermore, their energy storage projects align with European energy goals, capitalise on regional potential, and leverage in-house expertise to drive profitability. CWP Europe’s energy storage projects are essential for the European energy goals as well as for the regional grid stability. They will also ensure the integration of more renewable energy projects into the system.

Executive Vice President of CWP Europe, Maja Turković, emphasised: “Our company recognizes the importance of developing a market for system services to support the deployment of battery storage technologies and remains committed to advancing technological solutions in renewable energy. By prioritising technology, sustainability, and social responsibility and through collaboration and partnerships, we stay at the forefront of innovation, driving continuous improvement towards a low-carbon energy system in the Adria region.”

Another notable advancement in the renewable energy field, spearheaded by CWP is the development of hybrid energy projects, which combine energy sources such as wind, solar, and battery technologies to optimise energy production and grid stability. “These hybrid projects are expected to play a significant role in enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the region’s electrical systems, paving the way for a cleaner and more prosperous future”, Ms. Turković explained.

By integrating various renewable sources like solar, wind, and energy storage, hybrid plants provide a balanced and resilient solution to the region’s energy needs. This approach addresses key challenges such as intermittency and land use optimization, ensuring a more reliable and efficient energy supply.

CWP Europe is currently developing some of its projects as hybrid projects (most notable is Equinox Power) assuming a combination of wind and solar with energy storage, and they expect such projects to be operational as of 2027.

Collaborations and partnerships with local partners and governments are instrumental to CWP Europe in advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives in the region and are helping the company to drive long-term sustainability. The company has  focused on several crucial areas in this sense.

Firstly, CWP Europe actively collaborates with local, regional, and national governments. This collaboration is aimed at fostering an environment that encourages the development  of renewable energy and sustainable practices. Through these partnerships, CWP Europe contributes to the evolution of energy policies and regulatory frameworks, thereby promoting a more sustainable energy future.

Moreover, the success and positive impact of CWP’s initiatives are deeply rooted in the cultivation of robust relationships with local partners and communities. CWP places great emphasis on a community-focused approach, utilising local partnerships as a valuable resource for understanding the unique needs and concerns of the communities. This strategy enables CWP to customise its projects in a way that addresses these concerns and promotes active community involvement.

Lastly, CWP Europe is actively engaged in capacity building and sustainability awareness initiatives in partnership with local educational institutions, NGOs, and community organisations. The company conducts workshops, training programs, and public outreach campaigns to empower communities with the necessary knowledge and skills. This enables community members to actively engage in and contribute to sustainable development efforts, furthering CWP Europe’s mission of creating a more sustainable future.

The company has gone a step ahead by adopting a comprehensive ESG strategy. Its adoption represents a pivotal shift in CWP Europe’s operational framework. Although the company is still in the process of fully integrating this strategy, its transformative potential is already evident, they claim. By leveraging the strategy, the company has gained valuable insights and learnings that will foster better adaptation and help them evolve in response to emerging trends and challenges. Early identification of potential challenges with communities or regulators has become a cornerstone of this approach, fostering proactive engagement and collaborative problem-solving.

CWP Europe’s commitment to ESG standards is deeply ingrained in their operations, reflected in their environmental initiatives, community development efforts, and governance practices. They strive to nurture the environment, foster strong relationships, and uphold good governance, all while creating value and making a transformative impact.

By adhering to the highest European and international environmental standards, CWP Europe is not just aiming for compliance, but striving to minimise their environmental footprint. To that goal, their site selection process is such that it ensures harmony with local ecosystems, and in collaboration with experts enables implementation of measures that preserve biodiversity, reduce air pollution, and mitigate noise.

We’ve already mentioned that CWP has a community-centric approach in its operations and by providing sustainable electricity, creating job opportunities, and supporting local development initiatives, the company strives to enhance the quality of life and foster economic growth.

Ultimately, governance sustainability is foundational for their overall sustainability framework. Through the implementation of robust internal practices, controls, and procedures that enhance transparency, accountability, and compliance with laws and regulations, CWP Europe builds trust and credibility while meeting the needs of local communities.

“It is our pleasure that CWP Europe, as one of the leaders of the renewable energy transition in the Adria region, has decided to join us for the second year in a row. It only reiterates their dedication to the energy transition and decarbonization of the region. We are thankful for their continuous support to the ESG Adria Summit”, said Biljana Braithwaite, CEO of Sustineri Partners, organiser of the Summit.
