By its nature, tourism values our planet's treasures — landscapes, wildlife, culture, and communities — supporting both environmental and cultural heritage preservation and local economic growth. Regent Porto Montenegro is a true epitome of this, given that this five-star luxury hotel located in the heart of Porto Montenegro prioritises the welfare of its guests and colleagues, while preserving the environment and giving back to local communities, embodying their "True Hospitality for Good" approach to sustainability.

"Our focus is on uplifting the community, preserving nature, and supporting the people around us in ways that are meaningful and impactful. We prioritise active engagement with the local community by extending support to public healthcare, educational institutions, vulnerable demographics, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing social welfare. Moreover, our human resource policies not only adhere to legal stipulations but also prioritise the nurturing of talent, promotion of gender equality, and the cultivation of a healthy work environment. We recognize our obligation to mitigate environmental impact, evident in our adoption of modern technologies and stringent measures to reduce carbon emissions and resource consumption", said Kai Dieckmann, General Manager of the Regent Porto Montenegro.

In 2023, Regent Porto Montenegro had successfully decreased their total energy consumption and lowered the total energy cost per night per guest, reflecting their proactive approach towards energy efficiency and cost management. Additionally, they have achieved a reduction in their overall carbon footprint in 2023, demonstrating their dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainability leadership. Despite the higher occupancy levels, they have maintained electricity consumption at the same level through various energy preservation initiatives.

Community engagement plays an important part of their sustainability strategy, as Regent Porto Montenegro actively supports and contributes to the local communities of Montenegro.

"Continuing on the already established good practices, we are proud to announce that we have successfully raised an impressive sum of 67,700 euros through our annual Fundraising Ball. These funds have been directed towards the procurement of a digital mammogram machine for the Tivat Health Centre, underscoring our commitment to advancing healthcare in the local community", said Dieckmann

Regent Porto Montenegro is dedicated to sustaining the momentum of their Giving for Good Month, an IHG initiative allowing employees to organise various activities they believe bring positive changes in the community. These initiatives include a beach cleaning day, a charity food market, hospitality classes and roadshows, nursing home visits, and more. This hotel has also raised funds at the traditional New Year's Lottery for employees, allowing their team members to practise their charity spirit while donating the proceeds to the Psychiatric Hospital in Kotor.

Hospitality industry as a whole is evolving in terms of embracing sustainable practices. In fact, hospitality is a massive industry with a great impact on overall energy consumption and CO2 emissions, which also heavily influences its guests and clients.

"When people come to the hotel, either for holidays or for work, they also come to enjoy themselves and have some quality-time with each other. In the relaxed mode, they are more prone to get inspired and informed on positive changes they can make every single day too, by adding some simple changes to their regular habits", said Dieckmann, adding that today "we see big corporations investing heavily in sustainability programmes, from decreasing energy consumption to educating their staff on the importance of such actions".

Their commitment to environmental, social, and governance principles is evident in their operations and community engagement initiatives. With strong partnerships with international stakeholders and the local community, Regent Porto Montenegro promotes fair employment practices, supports local healthcare and education systems, and contributes to environmental conservation. Their dedication is recognised internationally, as they hold the prestigious Green Key certification!

"If we look at the IHG Group, which we are proud members of and which operates more than 6,000 hotels globally, employs hundreds of thousands of people, and hosts millions of guests annually, we can see how these small changes create a massive global impact. By prioritising sustainability initiatives and championing eco-conscious practices, the hospitality industry is poised to catalyse positive change on a global scale, setting a precedent for responsible business practices across diverse sectors", explained Dieckmann

"From reducing carbon emissions to minimising plastic usage and supporting local initiatives, they embody the values we cherish at the ESG Adria Summit, and we are proud to have them as a partner for the second year", said Biljana Braithwaite, CEO of Sustineri Partners, organiser of the ESG Adria Summit.
