Founded in 1885, Tikveš has gone through a remarkable transformation. The company evolved  from a traditional winery into a modern powerhouse , all while keeping deep devotion towards Macedonian heritage. However, it is not just their rich history that sets Tikveš apart, it is their commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. This is what truly distinguishes them as regional industry leaders.

Upon acquisition by the M6 Investment Group in 2003, Tikveš began a journey of technological transformation and sustainable development. They integrated sustainable vineyard practices as a foundation for their operations, strongly reflecting their dedication to both preserve the environment and maintain the highest standards of quality. Despite being on a straight path towards modernization, Tikveš has remained loyal to the traditional practices, such as hand picking grapes and organic wine production, ensuring that each bottle reflects the essence of its home country.

This dedication to quality and sustainability has not gone unnoticed. Tikveš has received international recognition, being named one of the 30 most innovative wine brands in the world at the prestigious Paris Wine Innovation Forum, in 2008. Their wines win approximately 100 awards annually, a true testimony to Tikveš's dedication to excellence.

The quality and authenticity of Tikveš wines have caught the attention of prominent wine critics worldwide, such as Robert Parker and his team at the Wine Advocate. As the only winery in Southeast Europe to achieve such high scores, Tikveš has received ratings of 93, 94, and 95 out of 100 for as many as eight of its wines. The first high score from Parker, 94 points, was awarded in 2012 to the premium red wine, Bela Voda. Just two years later, Parker and his team raised their rating to an impressive 95 points.

ESG principles remain seeded in every aspect of their operations, from vineyard management to corporate governance. As the first winery in the region to adopt ESG practices, Tikveš is setting a new standard for their industry. In fact, this is further confirmed by their work on presenting its first-ever ESG report, a significant milestone that echoes Tikveš's leadership in sustainability.

But Tikveš's dedication to social responsibility goes beyond environmental initiatives. They are deeply invested in their community, fostering economic development and supporting local initiatives. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement programs, Tikveš is creating meaningful impact beyond the confines of their vineyards, ensuring that their success is shared with those around them.

What sets Tikveš Winery apart is also their strong commitment to gender equality and community empowerment. Their dedication to diversity and inclusivity has once again been confirmed by the company joining the ranks of Women on Boards Adria (WOBA) initiative as a corporate funding partner in 2023.

“Tikveš is a true symbol of how innovation can lead the way in any industry, including sustainable winemaking. They should serve as an inspiration to others in the industry, and an example on how transformative embracing ESG principles can be”, said Biljana Braithwaite, CEO of Sustineri Partners and one of the organisers of the ESG Adria Summit 2024.
