Sustainability is essential for long-term business resilience. Generali insurance recognises this and integrates ESG principles into its core business strategy. As a world leader in insurance and asset management, Generali not only shapes the future of the industry but also ensures sustainability in the very long term. Founded in 1831, the company has become a lead player on the global stage, operating in more than 50 markets worldwide and serving 71 million customers with a workforce of almost 82,000 employees.

“One of the pillars of our strategy is sustainable business, which means that every decision we make today must have positive implications for future generations. Our goal is not to create products that generate short-term profit at the expense of the planet, but rather to create profitability through sustainable business practices, ensuring that individuals and society as a whole do not suffer negative consequences. In Serbia, we have also adopted an ESG strategy, which outlines 34 activities for this year across all three areas.”, highlighted Dragan Filipović, the President of the Executive Board and CEO of Generali Insurance Serbia.

Responsible Insurer, Investor, Employer, and Corporate Citizen

The Generali Lifetime Partner 27: Driving excellence strategy has set out to define Generali as a Responsible Insurer, Investor, Employer, and Corporate Citizen going forward. One of the very important commitments is the exit in coal-related investments entirely across OECD countries by 2030 and across the globe by 2040. Their focus goes beyond reaching the 2050 net-zero goal, it also involves expanding its green investment portfolio, with a key initiative being the Fenice 190 program which actively contributes to the EU's economic recovery efforts.

Named one of the most inclusive employers in the region, Generali fosters a workplace culture in which equity, as well as career advancement and inclusivity, thrives. The company includes the Be Bold for Inclusion and Diversity Week as part of its activities, including its partnership with the Youth with Disabilities Forum, ensuring that equal opportunities are offered to all employees. Generali's commitment to these values has earned it a spot on Forbes' list of the top 10 international companies for women in 2024.

The environmental approach of Generali is based on real actions delivering measurable results. It does so by implementing continuous energy-saving campaigns, recycling, and digitalisation while further lowering the carbon footprint. Creating value for the organisation’s green approach, Generali promotes an ecological method of transportation and sustainable mobility.

Generali's initiative, The Human Safety Net (THSN), is dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities. Through the "Support, Not Perfection" project in partnership with the Novak Đoković Foundation, Generali Osiguranje Srbija has supported over 4,400 parents  and enabled the opening of 15 parental support centers throughout Serbia.

Generali’s employees are at the very heart of the drive to realise its ESG mission. In 2023, 750 employees from 24 countries participated in the Global Challenge, which was in support of 50 parents and children attending Life Skills School in Zlatibor. The THSN bazaar has also become a major initiative, where employees all over the country donate useful items for parents, such as books, board games, and sports equipment. All proceeds are donated to the Novak Đoković Foundation, for their parental support programme.
