Hipotekarna Banka, a fast-growing bank in Montenegro, is dedicated to promoting sustainable development and responsible banking practices. The bank has developed a comprehensive sustainability strategy that encompasses five pillars: environmental footprint, community, clients and partners, corporate values and workplace, and governance, standards, and performance. In November 2021, Hipotekarna Banka became the first Montenegrin member bank of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative by signing on to the Principles of Responsible Banking. As a bronze sponsor of the Western Balkans ESG Summit, the bank has demonstrated its commitment to becoming one of the market leader in ESG-oriented banking.
Since January 2022, the bank has been revising and approving its internal sustainability strategy with the board of directors and a newly appointed supervisory board. By the end of 2022, the bank trained all of its employees on the initiative and published its first sustainability snapshot with highlights from programs and initiatives and results obtained in the first year. The bank's goal for 2023 is to publish its first official sustainability report while continuously improving and aligning its strategy with new legislative requirements and global leading practices. Hipotekarna Banka hopes to be a new agent of change, making a positive impact on the environment, its community, and all of its stakeholders.
By taking part at the Western Balkans ESG Summit, Hipotekarna Banka is leading the way in promoting responsible banking practices and sustainable development in the region. The bank looks forward to welcoming other entities in the Montenegrin market, especially fellow banks, to join it in the journey ahead towards a more sustainable future.
