Erste Bank Montenegro, a member of the Erste Group, places great importance on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. Recently, the bank has begun working on creating its sustainable finance framework, underscoring its commitment to ecological and social responsibility. The initiation of a sustainable finance framework, although being far from the first of the bank’s ESG efforts, marks a pivotal and concrete step towards its ultimate goal, particularly focusing on strengthening Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management. This strategic project positions the bank at the forefront of sustainable banking practices, emphasising sustainability as its core mission.

“The future of finances lies in taking into account both the environment and society. Companies that adopt ESG standards early on are establishing the groundwork for sustainable prosperity. As a dependable partner, we at Erste Bank Montenegro aim to assist clients in addressing these two areas, while helping them leverage the possibilities at hand“, says Aleksa Lukić, President of the Management Board in Erste Bank Montenegro.

Erste Montenegro has undertaken the commitment to implement the environmental protection policy and responsible finance principles, especially for socially, environmentally and ethically sensitive sectors. The bank proudly supports initiatives that give the local community (and region) a nudge towards a greener economy. This is best reflected in its support for projects such as the installation of solar benches, solar panels on the roof of its headquarters building, and a concerted effort to reduce paper consumption.

The development based on ESG standards has provided Erste Bank Montenegro with an unique opportunity to engage with clients on a deeper level and a broader perspective in mind. The bank now proactively demonstrates its understanding of clients' challenges on the path to sustainability, paving the way for new business opportunities that benefit both its customers and the institution. This way, Erste Bank Montenegro aims to contribute to a more sustainable world tomorrow.

In its role as an active and reliable partner to its clients, Erste Bank’s goal is to assist them in navigating social and environmental challenges while at the same time capitalising on emerging opportunities. Simultaneously, the bank aspires to serve as a role model for its employees and the entire financial sector. At the core of Erste Bank Montenegro's commitment to ESG standards lies the acknowledgment of climate change and its profound impact on the environment. The banking sector, with its ability to direct financial flows, plays a crucial role in driving the green transition of the economy.

Proudly standing as the silver partner of the second ESG summit, Erste Bank Montenegro further solidifies its dedication to sustainability in the region. “This partnership reflects the bank's active involvement in shaping the discourse around ESG practices and highlights its aspiration to be a catalyst for positive change within the financial sector. Erste Bank Montenegro's silver partnership is reflecting its contributions to advancing sustainable finance and promotes the collective efforts aimed at building a more resilient future for the entire region”, said Biljana Braithwaite, the CEO of Sustineri Partners, organiser of the ESG Adria Summit 2024.
